Out in the county, the public service mowers cut grass along the side of the road a couple of times each summer. Between cuttings, the grass grows waist high, and is no doubt populated by snakes, ticks, and other realities of nature.
Our "neighborhood" has a Clean & Green program (trash pick-up), and when we see the mowers along our county road, we know it's time to get the force in gear and schedule a trash pick-up. People are more comfortable volunteering for this duty when they don't have to contend with snakes in the high grass along the highway.
This morning we had a nice turnout of volunteers to up along the road. I made a few observations, and figured I'd share.
First of all, people who drink "yellar dranks" (Sundrop, Mountain Dew, Meller Yellar etc.) are the most likely to litter. Among beer drinkers, the biggest offenders are those who drink Coors Light. (I know the commercials depict them as tree-hugging Rocky Mountain men, but it's a wicked marketing lie.)
Styrofoam peanuts are (and have always been) a horrible idea.
Trash that is moving should be left alone.
Leaves of three, let it be.
A pair of gardening gloves is worth the investment.
And finally, picking up trash is not conducive to an even tan.
Thanks to all of you Allison Creekers who came out & helped clean up our community. And stay away from those yellar drinks!
